Chatham County Jail Booking Feed

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Richard S. Coleman, operates the county jail and publishes the public booking feed from its Corrections section. The official online tool is not a complete all-current-inmates roster and it is not a name-search database. It is a recent-bookings feed with two official views: 24-hour bookings and 72-hour bookings. The feed is useful for a person recently booked into Chatham County Jail after an arrest by Savannah PD, Chatham County PD, Pooler PD, Garden City PD, Tybee Island PD, a court, or another listed agency.

The booking pages open with the sheriff's disclaimer. Chatham says the information is provided without warranties about accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability, and that use of the page means accepting those terms. The feed also carries Georgia booking-photo language tied to HB 845. In the inspected entries, the feed showed text booking data but not mugshot images, housing location, court date, projected release date, or a full custody history.

Start with the county feed when the arrest was local and recent. Use other systems when the person was sentenced to state custody, moved to a Georgia Department of Corrections facility, held federally, held by immigration authorities, or outside the short booking window. The local jail remains the fallback for recent records that do not display online.

Because the page is a feed rather than a database form, the best search method is to choose the correct day window, scroll the entries, and use the browser find command for names or identifiers.

How to Use the Feed

Use the booking feed like a recent intake log. It is strongest when the person was booked within the last day or the last three days and when the name spelling is known. It is weaker when the arrest is older, the person has been released, the person was transferred, or the custody is state, federal, or immigration rather than local county jail custody.

1. Open the Sheriff's Office Corrections menu and choose the 24-hour booking page for the newest entries or the 72-hour booking page for the longer recent window.
2. Read the disclaimer and the Georgia booking-photo notice before relying on the entry.
3. Scroll the entries. The inspected page did not provide a search box, submit button, date picker, or login.
4. Use your browser's find function to look for a last name, DIN, arrest number, or agency label.
5. Match more than one field. Confirm the name against date of birth, DIN, arrest date, arrest number, agency, and charges.
6. If no entry appears, try the 72-hour view, call Jail Records, call Booking, or move to the correct state, federal, ICE, court, or VINELink channel.

A no-result search does not prove that no arrest occurred. It can mean the booking aged out, the name was entered differently, the person was released, the case is restricted, or another custody system is responsible. For local records questions, write down every identifier visible before calling so staff do not have to work from a partial name alone.

Chatham County Roster Search Fields

The public Chatham feed has fewer controls than a typical jail roster portal. There is no public name field, no DOB field, no DIN field, no arrest-number search, no paid account gate, and no facility dropdown in the inspected HTML. The only practical filter is the page URL or link choice for the recent booking window.

What a Chatham Booking Record Shows

Chatham booking entries are compact text records. They identify the booking and the arrest event, but they do not replace jail staff confirmation or a court docket. A bond line may show a dollar total, including $0.00 in some entries, but a zero-dollar line can be associated with a hold, contempt, probation matter, or court order. Do not treat it as automatic release.

Jail Records Contact Card

For older bookings, missing entries, release-processing questions, or records not posted online, use the sheriff contact channels rather than guessing from the feed. The jail and Sheriff's Office are at 1050 Carl Griffin Drive, Savannah, GA 31405. The sheriff's general business hours are listed as 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, while Booking, Front Lobby, and Shift Commander numbers are shown for 24/7 assistance.

The sheriff's contact page also shows a media/inmate question form with fields for requestor contact information, inmate first and last name, DOB, DIN, and a question. Research notes did not identify it as a formal Open Records Act portal, so use it cautiously and call Jail Records for routing when a record copy or older booking record is needed.

Before calling, write down the person's full name, DOB, DIN, arrest number, arrest date, agency, bond line, and the first charge codes. Those identifiers are more useful than a name-only request.

All Lookup Channels

Chatham County records split by custody type. The sheriff feed is local and recent. GDC is for state prisoners. BOP is for federal Bureau of Prisons records. ICE ODLS is for immigration detention and CBP custody over 48 hours. VINELink is a custody status and notification supplement when coverage and a matching record are available. Local police apps found in the research are not jail lookup apps.

County Jail, GDC, BOP, and ICE

People often search the wrong system after a Chatham arrest. The county jail feed covers recent local booking into the Chatham County Detention Center. It does not reliably show a person after transfer to prison, federal designation, or immigration custody. The Georgia Department of Corrections locator can search by name, description, ID, or case number and warns that photographs display automatically if available. GDC also tells users to verify state records by written correspondence with Inmate Records and Information at PO Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029.

Use the county feed first for new arrests, then use court records and GDC once the case moves past county booking and into sentencing or state custody.

Chatham Detention Facilities

The main local jail facility is Chatham County Jail, also described as the Chatham County Detention Center, at 1050 Carl Griffin Drive in Savannah. It handles local bookings, jail records, bond processing, visitation, JailATM deposits, and county-level inmate population reporting. Chatham also has state facilities that are searched through GDC rather than the sheriff booking feed.

Booking, Intake, and Classification

A local arrest can come from Savannah PD, Chatham County PD, Pooler PD, Garden City PD, Tybee Island PD, a Chatham court, or another agency. After transport or commitment to the jail, Receiving and Discharge/Booking handles processing. The public feed shows the result of that process, not every internal step. It does not show exact booking time, intake officer, fingerprints, medical screening, property inventory, or housing assignment.

Chatham uses Objective Jail Classification after it becomes clear that a person will remain detained for arraignment or a substantial period. The process uses arrest reports, intake screening, and records checks to assess risk and make housing or program assignments. People quickly released through bail, recognizance, pending investigation, or without being charged may not go through the same classification sequence.

Booking charges and court charges can later differ. A jail entry records intake information. Prosecutors and courts may amend, reduce, dismiss, accuse, indict, or otherwise change the case. Use court records after a jail arrest when the question is about filed charges, hearings, disposition, or a court date.

Visitation Hours and Rules

Chatham publishes separate in-person visitation and remote video visitation information. A holiday notice in the research showed that visitation can close or resume on facility-specific dates, so confirm before traveling. Visitors need valid government, state, or school picture ID with date of birth and current address. Visitors under 17 must be accompanied by an adult, and visitation can end for disruptive behavior, unattended children, prohibited items, dress-code violations, or signs of alcohol or drug influence.

Mail, Money, and JailATM

Chatham's mail rules are easy to mix up because different items go to different addresses. Letters to family and friends use the JailATM.com Atlanta return address format with inmate ID and full name. Money orders and certified checks for inmate accounts go to Chatham County Sheriff's Office, Finance and Accounting Services, 1050 Carl Griffin Drive, Savannah, GA 31405. Soft-cover books from commercial vendors, magazine subscriptions, legal mail, and religious material go to the Chatham County Jail address at 1074 Carl Griffin Drive.

Friends and family can add money through JailATM online or deposit kiosks. Research notes list a $2.50 transaction fee for deposits or ATM transactions. The Video Visitation kiosk window is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the cashier booth Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Main Lobby kiosk access covers overnight and weekend windows, and the sheriff page also says deposit kiosks are accessible to the public 24 hours a day. After normal hours, the lobby is unstaffed and visitors use the inner-vestibule intercom for officer assistance.
