Chatham County Jail Mugshots Overview
The Chatham County Sheriff's Office publishes recent booking information for the county jail through two official public feeds: 24-hour bookings and 72-hour bookings. Those feeds are the public starting point for a recent Chatham County jail booking, but the inspected booking entries did not display mugshot images. They showed text fields such as DIN, name, birth date, race, sex, arrest date, arrest number, agency, bond, and charges.
The same sheriff booking pages carry a Georgia HB 845 booking-photograph notice. That notice matters because Georgia treats booking photographs differently from basic booking text. Chatham can publish recent booking data while still limiting booking photo posting or release where the photograph may be used in a pay-to-remove publication or website context.
Use a factual records approach. Do not assume that a missing mugshot means no booking occurred, and do not use commercial mugshot sites as a substitute for the sheriff, court, GDC, BOP, ICE, or VINELink channels. The public Chatham feed answers a narrow question: whether a recent booking entry appears in the short window. It does not act as a full photo gallery or historical mugshot archive.
The official 72-hour Chatham County booking feed is the longer recent window for checking whether a booking entry is still posted.
In inspected entries, the feed functioned as a text booking list rather than a mugshot display page, so photo requests should be routed through official records channels.
Booking Photo Field Inventory
The field inventory is important because Chatham publishes several identifiers that can support a later records request even when no image appears online. Copy identifiers exactly before calling or writing. If a photo is sought for a legitimate purpose, the DIN and arrest number are more precise than a name alone.

How to Find or Request a Booking Photo
Begin with the official sheriff source even though inspected entries did not show photos. The feed can confirm that a recent booking exists and provide the identifiers needed for a records inquiry. It is also the place where the sheriff posts the booking-photo legal notice that affects release decisions.
- Check the 24-hour booking feed first for a very recent arrest, then check the 72-hour feed if the booking may be older.
- Use browser find to search the displayed text. The feed itself has no name-search box, date picker, photo filter, or login.
- Write down the name, DOB, DIN, arrest number, arrest date, agency, bond line, and charge text.
- If a booking photo is needed for a legitimate records purpose, call Jail Records at (912) 652-7734 or ask Corrections at (912) 652-7700 for the correct Open Records Act routing.
- State the person, DIN or arrest number if known, arrest date, agency, and purpose. Expect the agency to apply Georgia booking-photo restrictions before releasing an image.
- For formal case status, use Chatham court records rather than a mugshot source. Booking photos do not prove how charges were filed or resolved.

Are Chatham County Mugshots Public?
Georgia law allows public access to many jail records, but booking photographs have separate limits. O.C.G.A. 42-4-7 requires the sheriff to keep jail records for people committed to the county jail and makes that record subject to examination under the Georgia Open Records Act. That supports access to basic jail commitment records, but it does not mean every booking photograph must be posted online or released without review.
O.C.G.A. 35-1-19 is the booking-photograph statute reflected in the sheriff's HB 845 notice. The practical rule is that an arresting law enforcement agency shall not provide or make available a copy of a booking photograph if the photo may be placed in a publication, posted to a website, or transferred for publication or posting, and removal from that publication or site requires payment or other consideration.

What Is Public and Not Public
The public Chatham feed showed basic recent booking facts. It did not show a booking photo, housing unit, projected release date, next court date, warrant number, prior booking photos, or a detailed per-charge bond table. Those gaps are not errors in a reader's search. They are limits of the public feed.

Mugshot Removal and Record Restriction
Georgia's Consumer Protection Division explains that arrest booking photographs, names, arrest dates, and birth dates may appear on commercial websites. It states that under O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.5, a covered company that fails to remove an eligible individual's mugshot within 30 days of a written request, or tries to charge for removal, violates Georgia's Fair Business Practices Act. The research connects eligibility to certain outcomes and record restrictions under Georgia statutes, including record restriction under O.C.G.A. 35-3-37.
No Chatham-specific sheriff policy for removing a booking photo after dismissal or record restriction was located in the assigned research. Use the statewide consumer-protection and record-restriction routes for commercial-site removal issues, and use the court or prosecutor record-restriction process when the underlying criminal history is eligible. Do not pay or rely on a commercial mugshot site to determine official status.
For the official case path, the jail booking entry is only the starting record. A dismissal, dead docket, restriction, sealing-related outcome, accusation, indictment, plea, or sentence is a court or prosecutor matter. The court record should control any decision about whether an arrest remains public, restricted, or eligible for a removal request to a covered company.
State, Federal, and ICE Photos
State prison photos are different from Chatham County jail mugshots. The Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender page says offender photographs, if available, display automatically. Use GDC for a person sentenced to state custody, including a person moved from Chatham County Jail to Coastal State Prison or connected to Coastal Transitional Center. The Chatham sheriff booking feed is not the state prison locator.
The federal BOP Inmate Locator searches by number or name and returns identity and custody fields such as name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. Research notes state that BOP does not publish mugshots through the locator. Federal pretrial detainees may be in U.S. Marshals custody and may not appear in BOP until sentencing or designation.
ICE ODLS is also not a mugshot gallery. It locates people in ICE custody or CBP custody for more than 48 hours, cannot search people under 18, and uses either A-number plus country of birth or exact biographical information. VINELink can help with custody status notifications where coverage exists, but it should not be treated as a source for booking photographs.

When the person is outside local county jail custody, choose the custody system first, then decide whether that system publishes any photo at all.
Use Records Before Photos
A Chatham mugshot search often starts because a family member, employer, landlord, journalist, or defendant wants to know what happened after an arrest. The booking photo is usually the least informative record. The DIN, arrest number, agency, bond line, and charge text are more useful for a call to Jail Records, a court search, or an attorney conversation.
